The Story

A man of the world and avid reader of newspapers and current events, Ted was deeply affected by the events of the world. This piece was inspired by the horrors that were occurring in Sudan, Africa.

As the Darfur Peace Agreement of 2006 collapsed, the genocide resumed in Sudan. Hundreds of thousands of civilian adults and children were the innocent victims in this war and the rest of the world ignored the tragedy.

The arm in the box was originally white, then I painted it brown and finally settled on blue, signifying the UN and its attempt to try and save some of the victims.

Looking into the mirror in the upper right you see you and me along with Alfred E. Newman standing by and ignoring the genocide. We are all guilty.

I chose the iconic Mad magazine character due to his equally iconic line - “What? Me worry?”

This piece questions us all. Who will help as the horrors of the world unfold around us. The answer, as always, is found in the mirror.
